Small Inventions. Big Impact. The Splash Stick
August 15, 2011 17:03:55

Finally, the second in our series promising to spotlight small inventions that make a big impact. Because just as we discovered when we added memory foam to a bath mat, small changes can significantly change everyday routines. This time out we look at the Starbuck’s splash stick. It’s a simple stir stick with a plug on top that seals the hole in the sip lid so when you’re walking your coffee doesn’t splash out onto your hand. The invention of the stick was the result of “crowdsourcing,” which basically means turning to the public for your ideas. Starbuck’s developed the stick after thousands of consumers turned to MyStarbucks.com in search of a solution to the splashing. The splash stick launched in April, 2008 to a fanfare of press, and while many complained that its one more piece of plastic destined for the landfill, the little stirrer stirred up mostly positive press for the chain. Today, the splash stick has become a part of many a commuter’s morning coffee routine.

Bringing a little TLC to your BBQ
August 04, 2011 21:24:59

Tender loving comfort, that is.

Summertime barbecuing frees us from the kitchen, but hours spent over a hot charcoal or gas grill can be rough on your body because of all the standing and heat. Well, there is a cure for the sore feet and perspiring brow. There’s no rule saying you can’t bring your Memory Foam Kitchen Mat out of the kitchen and onto the patio, where it can support and cushion your feet while you flip burgers and roll skewers. And because it’s machine washable, the mat can handle the extra dirt of working outdoors when you do. As for staying dry, the Microdry Dish Towel is a perfect grill companion. The microfiber cloth is incredibly absorbent so one towel can keep you dry through a barbecue fest for 50 guests, no problem. It’s also super soft on your skin so that wiping never feels scratchy. Chances are these two accessories will become grilling tools as essential as your spatula and serving platter.

Home Spahhhh
July 26, 2011 22:50:41

If your summer break this year doesn’t include a trip to the spa, have the spa come home to you. Here’s how to create a rejuvenating experience in your own bathroom:

1) Clear the house. Send your spouse and kids to the movies, to the beach, to the playground. If they absolutely have to stay home, have everyone swear an oath to not disturb you.

2) Set the mood. Candles offer a soft, relaxing light and can add scent to your setting. A favorite ambient playlist can provide the perfect zone out soundtrack.
